Hi All Have finally found access to a micro fiche reader close by. I wish to purchase records of BMD from 1837 onwards. Not the indexes as I have too many wandering ancestors with common names and have to link them to parents or towns etc to find out if they are the right ones. How do you order these records and do they go by district, years or what. Also could someone provide me with a link to get them as I have searched the web and can't seem to find what I want. Can someone also tell me why sooo many people died so young in the mid 1800's as I didn't seem to find this while researching my fathers pioneer ancestors in Canada. Thanks Robin Perth Australia
i was wondering if there might be one or two of you that had prater families, particularly families that date prior to the 1720s. i am a decentant of that line here in the states and am interest in some of the day to day life that may have occured during that time. silas snyder _________________________________________________________________ FREE pop-up blocking with the new MSN Toolbar get it now! http://toolbar.msn.click-url.com/go/onm00200415ave/direct/01/

If you mean the certificates then you can only buy them individually from the GRO at a cost of 7GBP each. You can't buy them any other way. http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/ http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/certificates/ Alternatively you could wait until the DoVE project is up and running, which should be sometime next year if they are running to schedule. This will give the mother's maiden name from 1837 onwards, spouse's surname from 1837 onwards and age at death from 1837 onwards. <http://www.gro.gov.uk/gro/content/aboutus/lookingahead/Digitisation_of_Vital_Events.asp> If you mean the parish registers then you would need to contact either the Wiltshire Record Office and/or Wilthsire Family History Society to see if they have any registers filmed/transcribed and available on either miche or CD > Can someone also tell me why sooo many people died so young in the > mid 1800's as I didn't seem to find this while researching my > fathers pioneer ancestors in Canada. Part of the answer to that will depend on where your ancestors were and what their occupations were. The Industrial Revolution probably had something to do with it as well.
I have just received a copy of a marriage certificate for George SMITH and Lydia FLOWER married at Steeple Ashton in November 1847. Lydia's address is Cold Harbour Hinton. Can anyone tell me anything about this place please? Thanks, Linda
Hi list - there have been some good responses to this query but I wonder if the original poster will see them? It is my understanding that message board posts come to the list but the reverse does not apply. Perhaps the list admin could remind us of the way to answer message board posts? It is a shame to see good information possibly not reaching the person concerned. My apologies if I have this wrong. But questions asked don't include any reference to the Jewish community, possibly the community was so small that it didn't merit any inquiry ? Possibly an enquiry direct to Wiltshire Record Office might suggest a lead to follow up ? Or posting a query in Wiltshire Community History, (see link below) who I've found very helpful and have access to a number of scarce resources. As to the surname, I think I've only found one Isaac in my newspaper transcripts, (he's from London). Another option might be contacting the Nimrod indexes incase they have any reference to the surname (again see link). Hello all, My interest lies in the Surname LANCASTER of Bratton Wiltshire. Could someone provide any information on Christiana LANCASTER who was born in Bratton January 1770 to a father John Landcaster and Mother Elizabeth (Maiden name unknown) or her death detail as she died as Christiana BATCHELOR? She lived in Bradford on Avon with her husband Jeremiah who died in 1852. Many thanks for any assistance, Regards, Colleen Heather Australia
Hi there, I am new to the list, trying to get something (parents or anything) on a Samuel BRACHER, what I have so far is thus: Samuel BRACHER buried at Fovant in 1831 aged 63 years. Last known residence of his descendants "The Manor House" Fovant Samuel was married to Elizabeth SHARPE she died btw 1803 & 1808 and was buried at Tisbury. Samuel might have had a sister or sister in law Mary BRACHER & a brother William BRACHER. Known children of Samuel & Elizabeth were Daniel BRACHER 1798-1844. Charles Sharpe BRACHER 1801-1866 Married Mary MARSH. Herbert BRACHER (possibly) 1802-1838. Sarah BRACHER 1804- Married John Harding HAYDEN. Samuel was a farmer. Other names ascotiated with Samuel are: WATERS (Durnford) LOCKE (Wylye) COLLIER (posibly) Wylye-London ? TROUTBECK (Fovant) OLLYER (Sherfield & Fovant) I was born in Cheshire but there is a Cheshire connection to Samuel's wife Elizabeth SHARPE. Samuel was mentioned a lot in a will I have along with a John NICHOLSON of Basford (Barford? St. Martin. Some of the connected LOCKE family are buried at the Church at Wylye. I have only a limited geographical knowledge of Wiltshire! so please excuse. Any leads at all would be very much appreiciated I have most of the stuff from the "Fovant" website already. Many thanks. Lawrence OLLIER
Hi The Bulford Parish records have been transcribed and are on line at the LDS site. Have downloaded baptisms and marriages but there are large gaps and no marriages for the Independent church. I could order the fiches but have no access to a reader as I am a long way from a LDS centre. I tried to pick up a second hand reader some years ago but to no avail. The problem is that I am related to almost half of the early residents of Bulford but when they start to move around it becomes difficult. So many names the same and the indexes don't give parents names or birth places. I am also into SMITHS and ANDREWS (Eghhhh). Robin
Hi I live in Australia, born in Canada and am researching my mothers family from Wiltshire. Most of them came from Bulford and surrounds. I have been researching all branches of my family for over 20 years and a lot of my information was second hand. I am now trying to research all family extensions and find "sources" to authenticate it all. I bit the bullet and joined ancestry.com (sooo expensive) but found transcribing errors there too, which makes searches difficult. I am currently looking for a marriage of Kezia PIKE (Aaron & Elizabeth) to a George Spreadbury. On the 61 census There is George Spreadbury and wife Kezia born Bulford, with niece Maria age 5 (dau of brother Samuel) so am quite sure this is her. The problem is I can't find a marriage. On the indexes there is a Jozia (sic) Pike married 2nd quarter 1859 in Andover district but there is no corresponding entry as to who she married. Is there SKS that can look for this marriage for me so I can authenticate it. Thanks Robin
