Hi Kathleen.. It looks to me as though the Anne found by Peggy is most probably the one you are looking for. The date fits in with what you were looking for and as there was no father she probably continued to use the mother's name of Smith. Other villages close by include Burbage, Ludgershall & Everleigh. Many Burbage records are available on line at www.burbage-wiltshire.co.uk/FHS/burbage.htm. However, if she gave Collingbourne as the place of birth it is highly likely the Anne found by Peggy is the one. Hello Graeme, I don't think it is the right one as I have the marriage certificate which says her father is William SMITH. I feel she would have told the truth at that time???? Hello everyone, I am new to this list and was wondering if anyone has a Clements interest in the Chirton, Etchilhampton or Urchfont areas of wiltshire. I am looking specifically for family of Isaac Clements b 1773 Urchfont. On the 1851 census he was living with his daughter Elizabeth and several grandchildren at Conock nr Chirton. He was a widower, I would like to know who his wife was but have been unable to find the family on the 1841 census. Thanks, andy
Hi Janette Martha is Jane's daughter, Jane is a servant in household of Robert Rendall, single, age 50, born Pudsey Bev

I was wondering if Jane had lost any children. If they were still births there's unlikely to be any record of them at all. If they lived at all, then there should be a record for them either in the GRO indices or as a baptism, assuming they were baptised. > In the 1901 census, for Yorkshire, I only have one child for her, my gmother > b. 1896 Yorkshire, whom she re-registered as Carpenter (no fathers name) one > month after the child had been registered by the father. If the mother wasn't married, then it's unlikely she would have had other children, but not impossible of course. -- Charani (UK)
Hi Bert Yes that's my gran and her mother. I have a copy of Marthas birth certificate. I was wondering if Jane had had children before she went to Yorkshire. If so, perhaps these would have been entered in KDs records, or elsewhere in Wiltshire, maybe. -----Original Message----- From: eng-wiltshire-bounces@rootsweb.com [mailto:eng-wiltshire-bounces@rootsweb.com] On Behalf Of Bert Arter Sent: 11 October 2006 16:59 To: eng-wiltshire@rootsweb.com Subject: Re: [ENG-WILTSHIRE] Church registers Hello Janette, In 1901 Pudsey, Yorkshire, there are just two CARPENTERS, Jane 33 born Kingston Deverill, Wiltshire, and Martha E. aged 4 born Stanningley, Yorkshire. Thanks for that, Charani. She is with her father in KD in 1891, while her sister and 6yr old niece are in the poorhouse in Mere. I was wondering if Jane had lost any children. In the 1901 census, for Yorkshire, I only have one child for her, my gmother b. 1896 Yorkshire, whom she re-registered as Carpenter (no fathers name) one month after the child had been registered by the father. The family are still to-gether in 1901. Hello Janette, In 1901 Pudsey, Yorkshire, there are just two CARPENTERS, Jane 33 born Kingston Deverill, Wiltshire, and Martha E. aged 4 born Stanningley, Yorkshire. You will need to buy some credits at http://www.1901census.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ to look at the census page to check whether Martha was Jane`s daughter.
