    2. Robert Kenchington
    3. Hi Wyndham, I have found Cumberland and Bearfield on an Somerset map which overlaps to Wiltshire. They are both just North of Bradford On Avon. Bearfield being a Village and Cumberland just a dwelling If you go to The Somerset Record Office site at http://www.somerset.gov.uk/archives/Go through maps and choose the 2nd edition. Select Bath and direct yourself South and East from here you should get to Bradford on Avon and you can clearly see Bearfield and Cumberland. Hope this helps, Rob Kenchington _________________________________________________________________ Cut through the jargon: find a PC for your needs. http://clk.atdmt.com/UKM/go/130777504/direct/01/

    3. Hi David - if you don't have it already this looks like your folk in 1841: Bromham John HUGHES 50 Ag lab Harriot 45 William 20 Henry 20 John 15 Jesse 10 George 5 all listes as born in county In 1851 in Bromham there is a possible entry: John HUGHES 60 Lodger/Widower Ag lab. B Heddington George HUGHES 15 Ag Lab. B Bromham In household of Henry and Rachel KNEE (from Beavington's transcriptions) William is also in Bromham. Jesse appears to be in Devizes. John and Henry are in Melksham Happy to send details if it would help. 3. Many thanks Val & Harry for your reply. Harry, may I be awkward and ask for a grid reference for Bearfield so I may locate it reasonably accurately? I have found an 1808 map on the Bradford on Avon website which shows "Berfield" and also "White Hill" which is mentioned on the census. I guess Bearfield or Bearfield disappeared as it became integrated with the rest of Bradford on Avon? I have the following 1861 Census page Image so I know it is correct: Parish [or Township] of Bradley Hamlet or Tything &c, of Cumberland Ecclesiastical District of Christchurch George WALTON.....Wilts Bearfield Ruth WALTON.........Wilts Cumberland etc and the address is Cumberland (no street name given) In succeeding census the Parish is Bradford and the Ecclesiastical District Christchurch but no Hamlet given although the address is "Hill Corner" in 1871 although this may be in a different part of Bradford on Avon. I guess I will have to look at the census for the area for each year and try and delineate the Hamlet of Cumberland by cross-referencing the enumerator's walk and families in each census year. many thanks Wyndham on a cold Narrowboat in the Midlands

    3. Good evening Wyndham :-) Could it be 'Berryfield'? It is 5 miles east of Bradford on Avon. If you go to B on A on genuki, then to 'nearby places' it has a map link near the bottom of the page. Cumberland doesn't ring any bells.
