Dear Lynne, I can not help you with the family info but I can answer your question " I do not know Wiltshire and am not sure if Lugershall would be anywhere near Milston ". If you go to the online gazetteer at http://www.genuki.org.uk/cgi-bin/gaz and type in Ludgershall, you can then click on the place name under 'Place Entry' and then scroll down below the new map to check how far Ludgershall is from other places under the heading " How far away is xxx ". Click that link and in the new box, type Milston and enter. It will come back and tell you that " Milston, Wiltshire [SU163452] is 7.2 miles (11.6 Km) WSW of Ludgershall, Wiltshire [SU264509]. This is measured directly between the two points 'as the crow flies' ignoring any geographical features such as rivers or hills. " Hope this helps (from another Queenslander!!) I have found the baptisms of most of his children in Milston. What I do know is as follows: >From the 1841 Census he was born in Wiltshire about 1772. He was living in Brigmerston at the time of the Census. He died there and was buried in St Marys Milston in 1849. He married MARY possibly around 1799 to 1800 but I am not sure if they married in Milston as it is possible their first child was born elsewhere. I have the baptisms and burials for Milston and there is a burial for an Edmund Perrot but no baptism. The first child born to Henry and Mary in Milston was Sarah in 1802. Edmund was born about 1801. There is also no baptism for Henry in Milston. I have found the following baptism - Henry Perrett - Parents Thomas Perrett and Ann Lansley or Lancely in Lugershall on Jun 30, 1776. Henry and Mary did name two of their children Thomas and Ann. Unfortunately being in Australia, I do not know Wiltshire and am not sure if Lugershall would be anywhere near Milston. I was wondering if anyone could possibly find any other baptism for Henry Perrott or a marriage to a Mary around 1800. Hello folks The whole of the Wiltshire 1841 (and a lot more) is available on http://www.pope-genealogy.me.uk/nwocp.htm This web site has lots of other things on it, including a neat list of the parishes missing from the 1841. I might also point out that the census taken between 1801 & 1831 were organised on the basis of the ancient Hundreds of Wiltshire. From 1841 onwards they were based on the new Registration Districts. For comparison, the 1841 returns were shuffled round till they reflected the 1831 and other census returns. From 1851 on they didn't bother doing that. Rgds Michael

Hello all, I have just broken down one of my longest standing brick-walls & in the process discovered my very first connection with Wiltshire! Solomon PIERCE lived in Oundle NTH from 1793 until his death in 1839. Here he raised a family, buried 2 wives & according to his quite detailed will owned a considerable amount of property, however his life prior to this period was a mystery. I now believe Solomon married Sarah GREGG in March CAM 15 Dec 1785 & baptised his 1st 3 children there. He then moved to Folkingham LIN 1789-92 - 2 more children baptised, but 2 also buried - before settling in Oundle (another 10 children!). Some of the elder children remained in Lincs & his second marriage to Susannah BROWN took place in St Pancras MDX in 1827 so he seemed to still be quite mobile!. First part of the mystery solved. According to the IGI (Familysearch) there is a Solomon PIERCE bapt in Urchfont WIL 17 Jun 1759, to James PIERCE & Mary BURGESS, and I am pretty confident that this is my man. There are 7 siblings, all with names he gave to his own children, and from the IGI I have been able to piece together a tentative tree going back through Solomon PIERCE & Margaret BURRY to William, (son of William PIERCE) bp 1673 & who married Sarah RUDDLE in 1695. However, all these entries are "patron submitted" and I have not yet been able to verify any of the information. Does anyone out there recognise this family? Can anyone guide me as how to best tackle pre-civil registration & census Wiltshire & specifically Urchfont research (from New Zealand!)? I would appreciate any guidance that anyone can offer. Thank you Anna Rufer Tirau, NZ

Dear List, I am looking for information for Rebecca Sheppard born about 1830 at Atworth. Seh is the daughter of William & Susanna Sheppard. She is living with her parents in Atworth in the 1841 census. In the 1851 census she is shown living with her brother Job Sheppard in Yatton Keynell, Wiltshire. After that I cannot find any record of her. Would appreciate any help. Thanks Bruce Barrett Heath, Ohio

Hello list, I've just joined in the hopes of contacting a living ( I think) cousin named Robert COWLEY. The last I heard from him would be around 1955 in the Salisbury area and I believe he was a farmer. The reason I'm trying to contact Robert is that I have now started on my maternal grandmother's side and am hoping that he will be able to fill in some blanks for me. Thanks for any help. Hello folks I know that many of you subscribe to commercial companies but I would like to draw your attention to stuff that is FREE! If you go to John Pope's web site on http://www.pope-genealogy.me.uk/nwocp.htm you will find the following census returns: 1841 100% 1851 5.6% 1861 35.1% 1871 69.2% 1891 10.2% (1881 can be viewed for free via the Mormon's web site familysearch) These returns are also uploaded to Free Census. The advantage of John's web site is that you can see the whole lot, wander round looking for likely people. You can also download them, turn them into spreadsheets and manipulate the data. You can search them using the normal Control-F method, but this only allows you to search the piece you are viewing. However, a Google advanced search will find anyone in the transcriptions on John's pages. This is a work in progress and new pieces are added every month. Rgds Michael
