Re Townsends I have some Townsends in my family. Elizabeth Townsend b 1816 in Wroughton, d 1877 in Pewsey. She was the illeg dau of Thomas Jones and Sarah Townsend. I believe Sarah was born in Rodbourne Cheney about 1790 . Elizabeth married Thomas Carter a butcher in Pewsey whose brother James ran an inn in Marlborough and was mayor around 1890. Hello Roger, Yes that is the same family. You may have read my earlier messages. Annie was either married to John Pilling or she regularly made false declarations. She registered the births of her children adding Kershaw as the second Christian name and also showed herself as Pilling formerly Kershaw and gave the father's details as John Pilling.
