    3. Hello everyone On a recent trip to the UK, I spent three wonderful (but tantalisingly short) days in Kendal doing family history research. I was unable to track down all the places where my Ruthven ancestors lived in the 1800s and wondered if local residents might be able to help with the following queries. High Beast Banks (an address from the 1841 census) - I found photos of Beast Banks - would 'High' simply mean the top of the hill? Ring of Bells Yard (from the 1851 and 1861 census) - not found on modern maps, presumably somewhere near the Ring of Bells public house? does the Yard still exist? can someone tell me where exactly? Jennings Yard, 11 Highgate (from a 1846 book) - I've seen the wonderful Matthew Emmott photos on the web and found Jennings Ter on a modern map (off Dowkers Lane) - is this where Jennings Yard was? 5 Castle Park Terrace - my family lived here for 30 years. The street is not shown on modern maps but according to old maps and staff at Kendal Library, the terrace is still there, a small lane wedged between the railway line and Sedbergh Road. I found a row of terraces behind those facing Sedbergh Rd - approx opposite Sawmill Lane - but could not work out how to access the houses. I've photographed them from the other side of the railway line in Castle Road and would dearly love to know which one is number five. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
