MR. J. W. ALLAN. We deeply regret to announce the death of an esteemed and talented contributor " A Rambler " (MR. JOHN WILLIAM ALLAN), who expired at his residence in Elswick Row, on Friday last. MR. ALLAN was a partner in the firm of MESSRS. SCOTT and ALLAN, merchants and commission agents, Bigg Market. During the last two years, he had been in delicate health, and on two or three occasions had been seriously ill. After a brief sojourn in Ryedale, whither he went for change of air, he appeared to have almost recovered; but unfortunately during the recent showery weather, he caught a severe cold. MR. ALLAN was an observing, smart, and tacile descriptive writer and his contributions to our columns, narrating his holiday wanderings in out-of-the-way places in Northumberland, Cumberland, Westmorland, and Durham, were very eagerly read. Some of the articles describing north-country parsonages were also his. He was a most kind, genial, and entertaining companion, ,and this intimation of his death before he had reached the prime of life will be read with deep sorrow in many a shepherd's cottage in Northumberland, as it may be also in the homes of some of the poor in our own town. His remains were interred on Monday at St. Nicholas' Cemetery, in a flowering resting place, after a special service at St. Matthew's, where some of the members of St. Peter's choir also assembled to pay a last tribute to their late friend.
