Ambleside Herald & Lakes News 16 Feb 1883 Page 4 Death of a Wray Farmer in South Africa We regret to record the demise of WILLIAM GARNETT and much respected farmer, who resided at Wray until last March, when he set sail with his wife and child for South Africa, where he hoped to settle as a farmer. During the voyage he was seized with disease which necessitated him remaining in quarantine for eight weeks. Soon after he commenced to work on his farm, but his colonial career was unfortunately cut by death, through the giving way of a blood vessel. This happened on the 3rd January, he being in his 35th year. His burial took place on the same day at Maritzburgh, Natal, and he was followed to the grave by a few young settlers from his native place.
