Ambleside Herald & Lakes News - 25-May-1883 Page 4 Death of a Centenarian There was buried at Natland, near Carnforth, on Thursday, JAMES CUNNINGHAM, who claimed to have been born on the 15th of August 1780, and was thus over 102 years old. His birth place was Killen, county Louth. In 1813 he was employed in the extension of the Lancaster canal into Westmorland, and had remained as a leading bankranger there ever since. He retained his mental faculties and a strong will to the last, but his eyesight failed two or three years ago. David Leverton
