Sarah, And of course all the other Westmorland listers, The UK Surnames lists started life as a list for the modern Cumbria. I quickly expanded it to include the whole country - but still maintained the county divisions for it. There is indeed a section for Westmorland and some Westmorland names are also still included under the banner Cumbria. Whilst it isn't a county limited list, you can of course just use it for one county if you wish, but you would then lose the benefits of being able to easily "look over the borders" into the other counties. Additional features also allow you to browse all the names from particular places, list all the contributors listing the same names as yourself, and list all the names from the same places as yours. All of this makes finding new contacts much easier. I stand corrected! You can register your surname at http://www.northofthesands.org.uk/westmoreland/surnames.html but I think only if you have an ancestor listed in Westmorland Church Notes.
