Ambleside Herald & Lakes News Issue #295 27 Nov 1885 Page 4 Death of JOHN SATTERTHWAITE Death of an Old Inhabitant of Hawkshead On Monday morning, about four o'clock the death occurred at Hawkshead of Mr. JOHN SATTERTHWAITE, of the Red Lion Hotel, who was one of, if not the oldest native of the village. Until within the last two or three years, MR. SATTERTHWAITE carried on the trade of a blacksmith on the premises which had previously been occupied by his father; indeed the family for some generations have resided in the vicinity of Hawkshead. MR. SATTERTHWAITE was born in 1828, and was consequently 57 years of age at the time of his death which took place rather unexpectedly.
