Hi I am new to the list and my name is Helen and I am researching the families CARRICK and ARMSTRONG on my maternal side. I am a South AFrican who moved to the UK five years ago and now am tracing my family back to their roots. The people in particular that I am looking for information about are: Joseph Carrick born c.1840 in Westmoreland, England. He married Mary Ann Armstrong who was born in CHoglan, Cumberland c. 1843. Her parents were Ralph Armstrong and Hannah Armstrong. All information that I have about Joseph Carrick parents are that his parents were Thomas and Hannah? Joseph and Mary Ann Carrick had three children: Hannah b. 1863 George b. 1866 Thomas b. 1867 (this is my ggfather). They left England and immigrated to South Africa probably Cape of Good Hope but I am not sure when they left. I have copies of all of their death notices from the archives in South Africa and the children were all born in England. I am not sure what year they would have left to go to AFrica and have no idea of the history of Westmoreland or Cumberland. The 1871 Census shows that the family was living in Civil Parish SHap, CLiburn. I would appreciate any information? Thank you Helen
