Warning! I have just visited the Kendal Record Office to view some old papers. Having travelled over 300 miles to get there I previously sent an email giving notice of my request so the papers could be exhumed. I did not receive the usual acknowledgement to my email -and the Kendal staff helpfully spent a while searching for my email making no mention of the email receipt problem-internal County Council communication to front line staff in Kendal appears poor! My email was not received-and no papers dug up!As the weather is very wet up there at present- my time could have used to useful effect! On my return I noted the web page of CCC Archives office in Carlisle office web page warns that they are not currently receiving emails from free email addresses...! This applies I now suspect to Kendal and I guess Barrow? My attempts to email Kendal (and Carlisle !) today failed. Message warns: "For technical reasons we are currently unable to receive many emails sent from freemail accounts (eg Yahoomail and Hotmail). Please take a note of an alternate contact method. We apologise for the inconvience this may cause you." Be on notice: if you try to email Cumbria County Council Archives-your email may not get through! Regards Stephen Stephen Savage If you are not the intended recipient for this e mail please reply to sender accordingly and delete this e mail.
