Hi David They aren't names I've come across yet but with that surname in Westmorland, the probabilities are fairly high that there's a connection somewhere in the dim and distant. I'm descended from Nicholas WOOF and Sarah STAGG who married 12 Mar 1770 in Lowther, through their son Joseph WOOF [b.c.1780 Lowther] and Mary LANGHORN [b.c.1783 Kirkby Thore] who married 6 July 1811 at Kirkby Thore. regards Cath ----- Original Message ----- From: "David and Mary Bossenger" <dmbza@telkomsa.net> To: <eng-westmorland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2008 7:01 PM Subject: [ENG-WESTMORLAND] WOOFF > Hi Cath, > My wife has on her mother's side a Dorothy WOOF b abt 1833 Firbank, > Westmoreland marrying a John ASKEW b 1824 in Stainton on 1 Jan 1853 in > Kirkby Lonsdale, Westmoreland. Gillian Hello there 5th cousin, once removed! Yes I have Mary as daughter of Lancelot LANGHORN and Eleanor LAIDLAY with siblings Elizabeth (b 1778); Hannah (b 1780); Lancelot (b1785) and William (b1789). Am I right in thinking that your Lancelot married Hannah DOVER 1811 in Appleby? regards Cath ----- Original Message ----- From: "GG" <gillianmckenna@free.fr> To: <eng-westmorland@rootsweb.com> Sent: Sunday, November 30, 2008 8:54 PM Subject: Re: [ENG-WESTMORLAND] WOOFF > Hi, > > Mary Langhorn b1783 Kirkby Thore is the daughter of Lancelot Langhorn & > Eleanor Laidley. Hello, I have an Issabell LANGHORNE who married William BETHAM 21 Jun 1688 in Crosby Ravensworth on one of my twigs. Anyone have any information on this family? I believe William BETHAM died at Lankaber and was buried at CR 12 Dec 1693. The IGI says he was born 1663 but no parents are given. Karen Lyon, France
Hello Gillian Do you connect with Margaret Langhorne ch 1707 Shap or William Langhorn ch 1672 at Crosby Ravensworth ? Hi Ken, I do not have a link with my Kirkby Thore Langhorns to Shap or CR Langhornes. Notice the spelling difference! I was told by Dean Langhorn that the extra "e" was to distinguish between the esteemed Langhornes of CR and the riffraff that is our family in Kirkby Thore!!!!! Hi Gillian Thanks for the quick reply. I noticed the spelling difference but, as you know, in early times people usually didn't fuss much about the spelling of names. I didn't know my Langhornes were a bit up market, but it certainly doesn't make them any more interesting than their namesakes without an "e". They probably had the same ancestors way back. If dna testing becomes cheap enough we will find out a lot more about all these distant connections.
