PENRITH HERALD, September 12, 1874 “A PIOUS FOUNDER” In the Churchyard of Bolton, Westmorland, there is a tombstone inscribed as follows: “In memory of JAMES HANSON, late Clerk of Bolton, Interred July 29th. Who this town’s poor out of his store, his last make’s relation, Ten pounds he gave and forty more for children’s education. Whilst he on earth had vital breath To sing he did endeavour, But now he sings to King of Kings Sweet hallelujah ever.
