Cumberland) thought that whoever had selected this committee had not shown much ability in the selection. The county he represented was the only place where the Scotch banks had established agencies for carrying on their banking business, and it was the county which originated the opposition to these banks of issue, yet not one of the eleven members returned from Cumberland was nominated upon the committee. He moved that one Member from the county of Cumberland, Westmorland, or Northumberland should be added to the committee. MR. MCLAREN (Edinburgh) suggested that two additional Members representing Scotch constituencies should be added, not representing the Scotch banks, but the general interest of the people of Scotland. After a long discussion as to the ' personnel ' of the committee, the list as proposed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer was agreed to.
