    1. [ENG-WESTMORLAND] THE LEEDS MERCURY, Wednesday April 14, 1875/THE BANKING COMMITTEE
    2. Barb Baker
    3. THE BANKING COMMITTEE. The CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER moved that the Select Committee on Banks of Issue to consist of twenty-one members. MR. CHANCELLOR of the EXCHEQUER MR. GOSHEN MR. S. CAVE MR. CAMPBELL-BANNERMAN SIR G. MONTGOMERY SIR JOHN LUBBOCK MR. HUBBARD MR. ANDERSON MR. MULHOLLAND MR. LAVESON-GOWER MR. BALFOUR MR. NORWOOD MR. ORR-EWING MR. MUNDELLA MR. TORR MR. WILLIAM SHAW MR. C. BECKETT DENISON MR. RACKHOUSE MR. KAVANAGH MR. SAMPSON LLOYD MR. HUSSEY VIVIAN. Power to send for persons, papers, and records. Five to be the quorum. MR. W. R. HODGSON (E. Cumberland) thought that whoever had selected this committee had not shown much ability in the selection. The county he represented was the only place where the Scotch banks had established agencies for carrying on their banking business, and it was the county which originated the opposition to these banks of issue, yet not one of the eleven members returned from Cumberland was nominated upon the committee. He moved that one Member from the county of Cumberland, Westmorland, or Northumberland should be added to the committee. MR. MCLAREN (Edinburgh) suggested that two additional Members representing Scotch constituencies should be added, not representing the Scotch banks, but the general interest of the people of Scotland. After a long discussion as to the ' personnel ' of the committee, the list as proposed by the Chancellor of the Exchequer was agreed to. The House adjourned at 1.50. ======================================
