    3. Jeff:: Bobbins are used in sewing machines, but the ones probably used in your grandfathers situation would probably have been the lager ones. Mostly turned from wood or possibly fabricated from metal cylinders to be used in the textile mills and probably worked his way up from an apprentice to a journeyman in that trade.....
