PRICE 1D. __________________________________________________ CUMBERLAND ASSIZES/CROWN COURT THE TRIALS OF PRISONERS. FALSE MARRIAGE DECLARATION. EDWARD THOMPSON (on bail), was charged with making a false declaration for the purpose of procuring a marriage between the said EDWARD THOMPSON and JANE GORDON, otherwise ROUTLEDGE, at Brampton, on the 27th of September, 1872. The HON. A. D. ELLIOT appeared for the prosecution, and MR. HENRY for the defence. After the evidence had been heard, HIS LORDSHIP summed up, and the jury found a verdict of Guilty, and prisoner was sentenced to ten days imprisonment with hard labour. ___________________________ BURGLARY AT WHITEHAVEN. JAMES TOOMEY, 20, tailor, (imperfectly instructed), was charged with burglariously breaking and entering into a dwelling-house and stealing therein nine gold watches the property of JOHN SPITTAL, at Whitehaven, on the 6th October, 1873. MR. HENRY prosecuted; and MR. .THURLOW defended the prisoner. The evidence in this case was conclusive, and HIS LORDSHIP sentenced the prisoner to twelve months' imprisonment with hard labour. _______________________ **this ends the FIRST DAY - WEDNESDAY Court Case Trials**
