    3. AND EAST CUMBERLAND AND WESTMORLAND NEWS. NO. 440 - Ninth Week in Quarter Registered for Transmission ABroad. SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 28, 1874. PRICE 1D. __________________________________________________ DEAD OR ALIVE ? It is stated that the REV. DR. MOFFAT believes there is yet hope DR. LIVINGSTONE may not be dead. The reasons for this hope are that no European has seen any native who witnessed LIVINGSTONE's death; that it is hardly credible LIVINGSTONE could have reached the spot where he is said to have died; that he had stores sufficient for eight months; that the present is almost a repetition of the report circulated twelve years ago about another African traveller; and that at the Foreign Office the report is not yet believed.
