Hi Listers, Request info on a line of KNIPE's which I have managed to take back to a Thos KNIFE [KNIPE] marrying Ann REDPATH in ULDALE 4 May 1780. Where to now? Is this Thos KNIPE roots in Westmorland or does he belong to the Lancs- that is my question! His children are MARY, JOHN and THOS- other first names that feature are WILLIAM, ROBERT- not that that helps too much! Does anybody have a missing KNIPE from this era? His grandson was an ironmonger in WIGTON. Thank you Bev Kirby
Bev~ I'm familiar with a Lancelot KNIPE, said to be the son of William KNIPE and Mary STEEL, who married 11 Mar 1776 Warcop, Westmorland. He emigrated to the US, and married Elizabeth JACKSON 07 Jun 1802 Baltimore, MD, daughter of Nathan JACKSON & Elizabeth TUER, of Dufton and Knock, Westmorland. Lancelot was a lead miner. He might be related to your Thomas. There is only one KNIPE, Antoney KNIPE, listed in the 1787 Westmorland Census, Occupation: Barber, living at Stricklandgate, Kendal Parish.
