Hi Deborah I dont know if this Bapt.in Asby fits the info you require on Joseph Sowerby:- Baptism 1787 Dec. 25. Joseph, son of Joseph, Labourer, and of Betty his wife. They also had one other child. Baptism 1785.Aug. 17. Mally, dau.of Joseph of Asby Winderwath, Labourer, and of Betty his wife. there are no Marr.or Bur.to this family in Asby but there are plenty of Sowerby`s between 1705 - 1797. William married Elizabeth Pearson born 1823 at Kirkby Stephen, they married at Warcop on 14th February 1846. Elizabeth & William had a son George Sowerby born 1846 at Bleatarn, Warcop, Westmorland. George went on to marry my ancestor Mary Warwick of Soulby, Kirkby Stephen on 30th May 1874 at the Register Office, Appleby. George & Mary had eight children all born Kirkby Stephen. Thanks Arthur, I have thought that my Joseph may have come from Asby so I'm keeping that on my list of possibles. I looked up the Malley baptism in 1785 but that said she was the daughter of Josua and Elizabeth. Are these the same family? There was no marriage for her.
