I am researching my line of KNIPE. I have all info from a Thomas Knipe[born 1777-83] who married in Plumbland in 1815 onwards! He died in Maryport in 1842 age 59. Please can you all make a note of any Knipe that pops up [in leases, rentals etc etc] in your research, say < 1780 as I will have to go through all the early KNIPE documentation and will probably have missed something. I have had to rule out the Thomas Knipe born Uldale 1883 as I have confirmed that he died when he was 21. To the best of my knowledge, there were very few Knipe's Cumberland so there is a good chance that "our Knipes" actually were originally from Westmorland. The Knipe/Knype name goe back to 1300 in Westmorland. Thank you all! Bev Kirby
