Hello Lyn: I have found a Thomas BRATHWATE, Widower, age 48 on the 1851 British Census, along with three sons John age 20, a Joiner / Thomas age 18, a Sawyer / Thompson age 16, a Scholar . They are living in Lancashire, Toxteth Park, District 1as, Page 24. The senior Thomas is a Joiner, born Kendal, Westmorland. The sons are all born in Lancashire, Toxteth Park. Lyn The 1851 Census has Thomas Brathwaite, Joiner ,48 born Kendal with John 20 and Thomas 18 as well as Thompson 16, all children were born Toxteth Park Liverpool and that is where they were living in 1851. This would make Thomas born circa 1802, They are in the 1841 census as well, together with Mary their mother. Again in Toxteth Park and Thomas senior was an Ironer. It is possible Thomas married Sarah Kerey in West Derby (Liverpool) in the Jun quarter 1852. The IGI has an unverified entry of Thomas marrying Mary Stainton in Kendal 25th May 1834 if this is the marriage then it is after the births of all the children. I can't see any birth entry that looks definite, there was a Thomas born 1802 in Preston Patrick, near Kendal but I can't see anything in Kendal.
