    3. Bev, I am trying to trace a Charlotte Knipe who appears in the church records for Calcutta as marrying William Graham in 1816. I have no information on her before 1816. I guess that she was born sometime between 1780 and 1800 but I don't know where. I had thought of St Helena as a possible location as it was on the trade route to India and there were Knipe families there at that time. Your mention that the name goes back to 1300 in Westmorland has prompted me to ask about her on this List. Does anyone know of any Knipes going to India at that time? I have all info from a Thomas Knipe[born 1777-83] who married in Plumbland in 1815 onwards! He died in Maryport in 1842 age 59. Please can you all make a note of any Knipe that pops up [in leases, rentals etc etc] in your research, say < 1780 as I will have to go through all the early KNIPE documentation and will probably have missed something. I have had to rule out the Thomas Knipe born Uldale 1883 as I have confirmed that he died when he was 21. To the best of my knowledge, there were very few Knipe's Cumberland so there is a good chance that "our Knipes" actually were originally from Westmorland. The Knipe/Knype name goe back to 1300 in Westmorland. Thank you all!
