Good morning and a Happy New year to all list members. I am researching a JAMES BOND (not 007) who was born at Kendal about 1780. James was probably the son of JOHN BOND, b.ca 1750 Skerton who was the husbandman at New Hall Farm, Staveley. John apparently married AGNES CLERK, she was born 1742, d. 22 Oct 1826 age 84. Children of JOHN and AGNES were maybe as follows: SARAH BOND, b.1777 Kirkland, buried 16 Nov 1824 Kendal age 51 ALICE BOND, b. 4 Sept 1774, Kendal (Underbarrow). CHARLES BOND, b. 1788 Kendal (Underbarrow) of Bonning Gate, d.1869 age 75 JOHN BOND, b.1780 of Bonning Gate, buried 19 Sept 1854 age 74 AGNES BOND, b.1793 of Bonning Gaye, buried 26 Feb 1865 age 72. JAMES BOND moved to Midgley, West Riding Yks, and married ANN BUTTERFIELD at Halifax 3 May 1801, his occupation was originally that of a Papermaker, however he became an Independent Minister at Clayton West for a short time before going to the Congregational Church at Marsden. I have a copy of the book 'History of Marsden Congregational Church', where he was the Minister (baptising 865 persons) and the School Teacher. I also have two quill hand-written letters dated 1837 & 1846. - his hand-writing was exceptional for that period of time, and I can only assume he had received a good education so where unknown. I would be most grateful if anyone can provide a glimmer of information on the above family, as an example where JAMES could have been educated or on anyone named BOND around Kendal between 1770 and 1800.
