    3. Carlisle Consistory Court Ambleside Lakes Herald November 16, 1883 Page 4 Chancellor BURTON held his monthly Consistory Court at Carlisle on Wednesday week. The Court considered the application (made last month and adjourned) by the Rev. H.M. FLETCHER, rector and Mr. James FLEMING, churchwarden of the church at Grasmere to make certain alterations in the interior of the building for the convenience of the congregation. One of the alterations proposed was with reference to the pew marked "Brimmer Head", the space occupied by which might be filled with two seats. Mr. WATSON appeared on behalf of the applicants and Mr. HOUGH was present on behalf of Thomas PARKER, the owner of Brimmer Head, who objected to any alteration being made in the pew marked "Brimmer Head". Mr. WATSON stated that the pew in question was a great eyesore. He called Edward WILSON, Grasmere, sixty years of age who said he had lived in Grasmere all his life, and he had never seen the occupiers of Brimmer Head occupy the pew. In answer to Mr. HOUGH, witness said the pew had been occupied by the owner. The evidence of the rector was taken and plans and documents produced. Mr. HOUGH said the owner of Brimmer Head was quite willing to alter the pew at his own expense, retaining the seat. The Court adjourned till the 13th of December in order to allow of some arrangement being arrived at without prejudice to any question of right.
