ROBERT ANDERSON'S Poetical Works. IT has been already announced to the Public, that Mr. ROBERT ANDERSON, the well-known Author of "CUMBERLAND BALLADS," &c. is about to commit to the Press his Poetical Works, consisting almost wholly of Original Matter. In order to ensure the success of this undertaking, various numerously-attended meetings were lately holden in Carlisle, when it was resolved- "1. That a Committee be immediately appointed to promote Subscriptions to Mr. ROBERT ANDERSON'S Poetical Works. "2. That the Committee have power to add to their number such Gentlemen as feel disposed to encourage this benevolent undertaking; and that Gentlemen residing in various other places, who are thought likely to co-operate in this design, be written to by friends now present, requesting them to lend assistance in bringing out the publication in such a manner as shall reflect credit upon Cumberland, and prove lasting benefit to the ingenious Author." In compliance with the above Resolutions, a very numerous and respectable Committee was formed. And at a General Meeting held on Monday the 5th of July, it was further Resolved- "1. That the following Gentlemen form a Sub-Committee for superintending the Publication of Mr. ROBERT ANDERSON'S Poetical Works, and for directing the business connected therewith- Mr. DAVID CARRICK, jun. Mr. HENRY PEARSON, Mr. THOMAS WILSON, Mr. JAMES ROTHWELL, Mr. THOMAS BOUSTEAD, Mr. ROBERT CARLYLE, Mr. JAMES FAIRBAIRN, Mr. WM. MEARNS, Mr. WM. JACKSON, Mr. JOHN LOWRY. "2. That Mr. JOHN ELLIOT, Banker, be appointed Treasurer. "3. That Mr. ROBERT PERRING be Secretary." The Work will be published in Two Volumes, foolscap octavo, Price 12s., and contain The Rose of Corbye, in Two Cantos.-The Dying Harper,-Connor, a Tale, in Two Cantos,-Margaret's Bower,-The Harper,-Miscellanies,-Epistles-Enigmas-Sonnets-Ballads-Songs, &c. &c. A Biographical Notice of the Author, including some observations on his style and genius, and an Essay on the Character, Manners, and Customs of the Peasantry of Cumberland, written by Mr. THOMAS SANDERSON, will be attached to the first volume. The Subscribers' Names will be printed. ---------- The Sub-Committee, on behalf of Mr. ANDERSON, solicit the patronage of the Public, which they feel confident will be liberally extended, when it is known that he is now advanced in years, without any other means of smoothing the rugged path of declining life. The proceeds of the Publication will be placed under the entire controul of the Sub-Committee, and they pledge themselves to apply them in a manner that (in their opinion) will most effectually promote Mr. ANDERSON'S future comfort and respectability. Subscribers' Names will be received by any of the Sub-Committee, the Author, or by the Booksellers throughout this and the neighbouring Counties. Upwards of Four Hundred Subscribers have already sent in their names.
