Resent - originally posted on 15 March 2016 11:58 Saturday 21 Aug 1819 (p. 3 col. 4) On Monday morning, John KING was executed at Durham, for the murder of James HAMILTON, a watchman at the Staith of Newbottle Colliery. John EDEN and James WOLFE were found guilty at Durham Assizes, of murdering Isabella YOUNG in August, 1815, servant of Miss SMITH, (now Lady PEAT) at Herrington, and setting the house on fire to conceal the murder. They were sentenced to be hung on Monday last, but were afterwards respited.
