    3. Hi again, There are other Farrers in Warcop according to LDS website: Family of William FARRER & Ann RICHARDSON (m 17/04/1814, Warcop) William FARRER (possibly son of Christopher & Sarah Muncaster, but not proved) Ann RICHARDSON bap 07/08/1791 Warcop, daughter of John RICHARDSON & Ann ROBINSON Ann FARRER bap 16/08/1822 Warcop Misc. Christopher FARRER bap 25/09/1822 Warcop, son of Thomas FARRER & Jane Elizabeth FARRER bap 06/11/1859 Warcop, daughter of Isabella FARRER >From the 1851 census, I have found: Thomas Farrer married age 63 Stone mason born Bleatarn WES Jane Farrer married wife age 64 born Ashby CUM Isabella dau age 29 born Warcop Jane granddau age3 born Warcop. I cannot find the baptism of Thomas in the IGI. It is possible he is the son of Christopher Farrer & Sarah Muncaster. Thomas has a son Christopher (1841 census & see baptism above). They are probably all linked but cannot see how as yet. I have a Mary FARRER who married Richard BURN at Addingham (no longer extant but between Glassonby and Gamblesby in Cumberland) in 1755. By 1763 when my ggg-grandfather was born, they were living at Temple Sowerby. The only date-compatible candidate for Mary FARRER that I have found (from the IGI) was born in 1729 at Troutbeck, Westmorland which is rather unlikely. -- ==== Michael Lightfoot Canberra, Australia Researching BURN(E), HARRISON, FARRER, OGLETHORP(E), TALLENTI[RN]E and others in Cumberland and Westmorland michael.lightfoot@pcug.org.au ====

The original company, Winder & Heaton, were based in Lancaster and opened in 1703. The company then moved to Crooklands near Kendal in 1750, and then Gatebeck near Kendal in 1818. They then moved to Low Mills in Kendal in 1826, Lound Foundry in Kendal in 1850, and then finally to Castle Foundry here at Canal Head, in 1893. I know K Shoes had a factory at Low Mills, but not sure if that is factory that was next to Romney Bridge or the one further down river closer to Natland, but it is that general area. 3. *With kind permission of the original sender, Ruth Borrowdale, some added information about the Royal Albert Asylum* _________________________________________________ Hi Barb you may be interested to know that the Royal Albert Hospital (as it became known) only closed a few years ago when the big thing was care in the community. A lot of the land was sold and has now been built on but the main building was converted into a Muslim Girls Boarding School and attracts girls from all over the world. It used to provide quite a large number of jobs which of course went when it closed. One of my friends trained as a nurse there and worked there for several years.
