Hello List! It's good to be back after a few years off!! Diving into my grandmother's lineage a little further. I'd love to hear from others researching in the area and finding living relatives. Here's the family: Robert Cookson Head, b. 7 Dec 1848(Ambleside), m. Jun qtr 1877, d. 16 Nov 1938 (Barrow) Harriett Upstone (first wife), b. ~1849 Leafield, d. Jun qtr 1887(Westmorland) Children: both born Ambleside Charles Edward U.? Cookson, b Dec qtr 1879, married Annie Stables?? Harriet Louisa Cookson, b Dec qtr 1881 Second wife Sarah Mary Crook, b. 7 May 1858(Lancaster), m. 24 Jan 1894(Ambleside), d. 14 Oct 1935(Barrow). Children: May Cookson, b. Jun qtr 1895 Emma Cookson, b. 29 Dec 1899(Ambleside), m. 24 Sep 1923(Barrow), d. 15 Dec 1983(USA) Priorities: May Cookson - grand aunt - believed married once but didn't last long. Lived most of her life in Yorkshire; was a buyer for a large store in Sheffield? Charles and his wife Ann or Annie - owned or ran a pub in Hawcoat, Charles died in the 1940s. I have nothing on Annie. Harriet Louisa Cookson - possible marriage to Thomas Brunton Dec qtr 1911(posting to this surname list also). Any and all help/discussion/direction would be greatly appreciated! I'll be ordering certificates tomorrow. Cheers! Mike Kendall Albuquerque, NM USA _________________________________________________________________ Hotmail® has ever-growing storage! This is really good. I lived so you could see when the Helm Wind was about to blow because of the cloud formation over the Pennines. We got the tail end of it and could hear it blowing. See this web site for an explanation. http://www.dufton.org.uk/the_helm_bar.htm There is a poem about Dufton that mentions it which I have been trying to trace. It was in my mother's Dufton WI Cookery book from around 1950 or before. I can't think where that cookery book went too - it was well used. The poem started something like this:-- Thou's nivver heard o' Dufton Where'st a lived afore It ligs right under Dufton Pike, Thou'll see it fra t' old barn door. It went on to say about the helm wind and has quite a few verses. If any one can locate this and can send me a copy I would be really grateful. Hi Judy: I've looked at a Google search, but have come up 'empty'. BUT, I've sent an inquiry through to a chap on the Genealogy-Cumberland@googlegroups.com List to see if he knows of any poem which you have described. My feeling is that he will find something for you ! Barb, Ontario, Canada. >>>>>>>>----- Original Message ----- From: "Judy Jeffrey" <judy@fireflies.demon.co.uk<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

I could have sworn I heard my uncle's voice there - except his "brogue/dialect" would have been much thicker! Quite something isn't it? Thanks so much for sending the link Barb, I really enjoyed it.
