He married Nellie Woodward, also from Birmingham. Year not known as yet!.. They had a son, Frederick Mathews who was born 1909 at Deritend, Birmingham..... Sandra, Are you sure of the birth date. I only ask because there is a marriage in 1902 for a John Matthews to an Ellen ( Nellie?) Woodward. But he would be too young to marry if he was born in 1889?
