    3. On his marriage certificate (dated 1924), his father is listed as a William Henry BAILEY - occupation is that of Gas Fitter. According to his eldest daughter, William was in the military when Horace was born I've searched on 1901 census, and found 1 possibility. A six month old Horace S BAILEY. JANE DYER <jane.dyer@btinternet.com> wrote: how irritating & frustrating. I've had a look using soundex & tried staffs as well but no other likely candidates come up. Do you have his father's occupation? It should be on the marriage cert then you can check it against the census J Roz Jones wrote: I am searching for great grandfather (my mum's mum's dad). His name is Horace BAILEY. He was born on the 28th of September 1898 in Birmingham, Warwickshire. (date of birth sourced from his military records.) His birth was never registered, nor was he christened - apparently mum was ill and dad was away in military and they 'never got round to it' (source: the eldest of his 4 children). His father's name is William Henry BAILEY (source: Horace's marriage certificate) According to my great aunt, Horace had a brother, John, a sister, Winifred, and a half brother (younger) called Charles. If i have the right certificate - John (his brother) was born on the 11 august 1906. Horace married Doris Margaret Kate HOARE on 26 December 1924 in Essex. I have found 1 possibility on 1901 census, but i'm not convinced it's him (gut instinct) - A Horace S Bailey - born 1900. but, if my maths is correct - Horace should be about 1 yr to 18mths. On this one he's only 6months? - should i run with it? 3. I think the father on the 1901 census is a gas fitter too, so I think it is the right family. Maybe they meant to put 1 year 6 months for the baby and somehow the '1 year' got missed off.
