    3. Hi Marlene I know exactly what you mean if only we could have the 1911 census. Its just certificates or electoral rolls. I live in the UK but still struggle to find people after 1901. Good luck with your search. 3. Hi All The Freedom of Information Act 2000 holds out the prospect that, in future, no English or Welsh decennial population censuses will be closed to public inspection for 100 years. But that prospect appears to be under serious threat from a most unlikely source - the National Archives. The National Archives seems to be attempting to flout the FoI Act by failing to make proper and timely arrangements for 1. The general release of the 1911 Census for England and Wales before the records are 100 years old 2. The special release of short extracts from the 1911 Census, to individual applicants, before the census is on general release. (This type of access has been available to family historians for more than 30 years but has now been discontinued by the National Archives.) Fortunately, although the media has hardly mentioned this problem, many MPs are fully aware of it. Since, March 2004, three House of Commons petitions (known as Early Day Motions 871, 1198 and 2330) about the release of the 1911 Census, have attracted over 360 signatures from MPs. But several large family history organizations appear to have remained relatively disinterested in the problem. It is widely acknowledged that the major representatives of family historians in the UK are the Society of Genealogists (SoG), the Federation of Family History Societies (FFHS), the Association of Genealogists and Researchers in Archives (AGRA) and the Guild of One-Name Studies (GOONS). However, those organizations do not appear to have spoken out for the hundreds of family historians who have become victims of the National Archives' refusal to grant them Freedom of Information Act access to extracts from the 1911 Census. We have not seen any evidence that those organizations have written to the recently appointed chief executive of the National Archives, Natalie Ceeney, formally urging her to arrange for (a) the general release the Online 1911 Census before 2012 and/or (b) the special release of extracts from the census prior to the general release of the census online. In addition, the National Archives has informed us that it does not hold any information regarding communications, in the period January 2005 to August 2006, between itself and family history/genealogical organizations, about the release of the 1911 Decennial Census for England and Wales before 2012.
