Hi Ken B, Thanks for that. We are pretty sure it was The Swan. Will check with my brother when I see im later. Regards, Vic
Hello Ken and Vic, I hope you don't mind me joining in. I have a book called Birmingham Pubs (for research you understand) it lists pubs from 1830 to 1939. It mentions The Duke Of York, Lichfield Road. The White Swan Victoria and Whitehead Roads Aston. I know the area a little as my father was born in Bevington Road. I drove down there recently and I just couldn't get my bearings now a lot of the buildings have gone. I can remember going in to Ansell's many years ago through a small archway built for the horse and cart. Sadly now all gone. If you would like a scan of the Pub please email me off list. Hi Wendy, Would you check something in your book of pubs for me please? My ancestor on the 1861 census lived at 25 Nechells Park Road, Aston and, although it's hard to make out, it looks as though it says "Vine Inn" underneath. Did this exist? Many thanks.
