Hi List Being very short of readies (no job etc) Is it possibile to obtain /prove a persons birth parents without having to actually part with money , I relize you have to pay up front , but I am thinking that if I list one of the parents wrong , but still proving that I am right in a devious way and get my money back!!!!. Do they tell you on what parent it failed on , thus if I thought the parents were really a william and emily ******, and just entered williams name ,but with a false mothers name as well, what would I get back from the GRO or whatever, if it failed on mothers name. And the search being made on a complete match of both. gary hodge
Hi Gary If you order with refs (i.e. stipulated names) and they do not match they will retain 4gbp search fee and return the other three pounds, no information is given as to the reference that did not match. (It is a time since I used the match system but believe that is still true) If you send to a local registrar, you should include an SAE so it will cost you slightly more, if the match is not correct they will usually return your cheque but again will not tell you why it does not match. So unless things have changed recently you are not going to gain much using either way of ordering. However if you know the Parish they were likely to be baptised in (if indeed they were?) you could order in the film for that Parish at an LDS FHS for not a vast sum, this may also provide you with possible siblings. You do not state the year(s) you are seeking information from? If post Sept quarter 1911 both parents names are entered on the GRO index, this can help to establish the parents without necessarily buying certs but to prove the entry you would still need to purchase the certificate. If you can wait a while longer the DOVE project may reduce the cost of buying the information or negate the need for some altogether? http://www.ffhs.org.uk/Societies/Latest/civil-reg-modernisation.htm Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) Admin for OVINGTON - HAYLOCK - SEYMOUR Lists > Being very short of readies (no job etc) Is it possibile to obtain > /prove a persons birth parents without having to actually part with > money , I relize you have to pay up front , but I am thinking that if I > list one of the parents wrong , but still proving that I am right in a > devious way and get my money back!!!!. > > Do they tell you on what parent it failed on , thus if I thought the > parents were really a william and emily ******, and just entered > williams name ,but with a false mothers name as well, what would I get > back from the GRO or whatever, if it failed on mothers name. > > And the search being made on a complete match of both. > > gary hodge
Well, if the office you ask to do a search for such and such parents, fails for one reason or another, e.g. wrong spelling for name, wrong place, etc. you still get charged. Not the total amount, but part of it for the time it takes. Sometimes they stuff up. I did ask for a rellie and they told me no trace so I asked another source who got it for me. Later when I asked for another record, the person also sent me the original certificate I had asked them for, not realising that I had, in the meantime, obtained it elsewhere. I said nothing. They meant well. Just the same, why they couldn't find it first time up I have no idea. robyndehood. Qld.
