It could mean a lot of things - mainly that the poor girl was totally humiliated that she was an unwed mother and most likely just put her father down. Maybe it was a cousin or another relative. It could be a number of things. Unless we could talk to the dead and find out, you might never know the reasoning. There is also the possibility she thought they meant her father as opposed to the baby's - not everyone had an education in those days and quite possibly she might not have understood In any event, I would not take one record as gospel - one needs to make a number of references before they can be sure.
