To clarify .... I have a lovely book of Jewellery Making in Birmingham but it is in no wise a listing of people working in the Jewellery Quarter. The listing is those members of the Birmingham Jewellers and Silversmiths Association in 1915. There is no SPENCER listed. This does not mean that they are not there .. just that they didn't belong to the Assoc in 1915. I quote from the intro ... "Many of the numerous one and two man firms which abounded in the Jewellery Quarter were not members of the BJSA and are not included in the list. The firms on this list would have included most of the major jewellery and silverware manufacturers in Birmingham at this period, employing varying numbers of people from half a dozen to several hundred. Kelly's Birmingham Directory for 1915 lists 1,093 firms under 37 jewellery and silversmithing related headings."
