    3. Three generations of my family (DODD) worked as jewellers in the Jewellery Quarter between about1850 and 1930. I am trying to find out what they made and where they worked. Does anybody have any ideas about where I could start. I have tried the Jewellery museum, but that doesn't seem very helpful. Also trying to find the antecedents of ENOCH DODD, b.1811, in King's Norton/Handsworth area. Can anyone help. Thank you John Dodd

    3. My Gr gr grandfather was a "spoonmaker" in Birminghamin about 1840. Would that be considered "jewelry" in a larger sense. 3. Hello John If they were self employed, they would have had their own assay mark and details of what they made will be at the Assay Office. The Jewellery Quarter museum is possibly misleading to some people, because it is only concerned with Smith and Pepper, whose building it is in, and whose tools, etc are in place. Dr Sally Baggott is the curator at the Assay Office and she will be able to help if they were self employed. If you Google Birmingham Assay Office there is a 'contact us' link.
