Hi Pauline, That makes sense. She and the daughter-in-law (The Head) were both widows, the eldest daughter was the only one working as a general servant and there were three younger children. There wouldn't have been much money coming into the house. Diane, I thought I might be right, because I have found ancestors on censuses with no occupation because of their age, and no word pauper in the occupation column. Obviously living on the generosity of others but not in receipt of Parish Relief. One wonders how these people actually lived, what they ate, etc, it must have been dreadfully hard, as parish Relief was not exactly generous!
