I'm with Robyn on her suggestions... I had a relative as well who was in the British Military involved in activities in Ireland during that same era...He does not exist anymore on anything but his WW1 record- no police record on him either when he served with a police force in N. Ireland....30 yrs after his death, the family secret came out... he was involved in the Black & Tans...those records were destroyed. It took me years to find an immigration record on him...they lied on their name & nationality to get here.
