As a first-time WAR researcher, I'm trying to establish the birth details of John GASCOIGNE who married Elizabeth SMITH in Banbury, Oxon, in 1844. In 1841, John's in Banbury an unmarried 20-yr-old labourer, not born in Oxon. The 1851 census of nearby Neithrop shows him born c1819 in "Delton, WAR". By 1861, the place has become "Pelton, WAR". On both occasions the writing is very clear, so there's no confusion over what's been written. I can't find either Delton or Pelton on a map, so would appreciate some suggestions. Could the place perhaps be Pailton? If so, is that Monks Kirby? John died in the Union Workhouse in 1866, so later censuses won't help. Any advice or suggestions would be much appreciated! TIA, Norma in sunny but wintery Mosgiel, New Zealand

Thanks, Ken, but the entry specifies 'Warwickshire' each time! Kenneth William Bibb wrote: > Norma, > There is a Pelton in Durham > Ken
