Thank you for the extra details from the register Mike - another piece of the jigsaw! And, Marlene. you have given me a lot to follow up on too. I will see where it leads. The passenger list shows Staffordshire but James and his HALE family are all from Sedgley so doesn't really help with Lucy's origins. Do I really have to go to work today? Much rather stay home and chase ancestors! Re: Lucy Hale nee BARTLETT b.c.1835 Birmingham (Mike Fisher) -----Inline Message Follows----- Thank you for those suggestions, Marlene. I am not too concerned about the father's name on the death cert. as Lucy died many years after her husband so probably noone else would know her father's name. However, in searching for the birth of Lucy Bartlett 1830 to 1840 in the I.G.I (which I know is not comprehensive) there are only 7 entries, one being Lucy Bartlett baptised Birmingham, born 22 April 1836 - right place and right time. And Lucy shows up in 1841 a.5 and 1851 a.15 - a perfect fit? Problem is she is shown as daughter of Paul and Sarah Bartlett and I would have expected that Paul not being a very common name it would be used for one of her children. On the positive side, Sarah was previously married to ? GREEN and when the family emigrated to NZ in 1872 there was a William Green aged 18 travelling with them. The family settled in Dunedin. Many thanks. Victoria >Kia Ora Victoria Suggest you double check the Death Cert - was it typed or a printout? I always ask for printouts so that you get the most likely accurate version. Someone may have confused husband James instead of Thomas father! Is the place of birth compatible with census info in 1861 & 1871? Check 1851 by inserting LUCY 1835 +/- 3years Birmingham and Aston . In other words NO surname and 2 possible birthplaces. If that fails try Lucinda or Luc* Barttlett? Bartlet? Did the family settle in Chch? The Chch library has a wonderful store of info, photos, Wills etc . James, Lucy and 5 children emigrated to New Zealand in 1872 - William Henry b.1857 Helenor b.c.1858 Charles b.1860 Fred b.1865 Thomas b.c.1867 Marriage cert gives father as Thomas Bartlett, Brick maker. Death cert ( 1920) gives father as James Bartlett; mother Unknown. I have not been able to find Lucy the 1841 or 1851 census or confirm her parents. Any help would be appreciated. Perhaps someone is missing Lucy after 1872? Victoria Christchurch, NZ _____________________________________________ -----Inline Message Follows----- Victoria, go back to Family Search anf put in Lucy Bartlett as you did before and get the "page" where it gives Lucy as the dau of Sarah & Paul. Now click on the CO 1010729 in the bottom left corner of the screen. When a new page pops up insert Bartlett (nothing else) under the LAST NAME heading. You will see 4 names the first 3 are the children of THOMAS & Phoebe. I wonder if Paul and Thomas were siblings or father & son? There is both a Paul and a Thomas born at Gloucester so perhaps you can find either or both in 1841 or 1851 to check? There is a Paul Bartlett born 1840 in the 1881 census - might he have been Lucy's brother? If so the family appears to have moved to Worcester for his birth. What County did they put on the Passenger List in 1872? Happy hunting Marlene -----Inline Message Follows----- >From St Martin's register bapt 10 May 1836 Lucy Bartlett born 21 April 1836 dau of Paul & Sarah of Witton St, brick maker Mike
