I have a birth certificate for a Percival Taylor covering his birth May 20, 1898. His mother was Kate Threadgold, his father James Taylor, Private 16th Lincoln Regiment. I am unable to find the family on the 1901 Census and was wondering if there is a way to determine if the family could have been posted overseas and then where that might be. Thanks in advance. Reg
Hi Reg As far as I can see there has never been a 16th Lincoln Regiment, the Royal Lincolnshire regiment was previously the 10th Regiment It may be worth rechecking the birth cert to make sure thats what it says, it may save a wild goose chase, (might the 16 be 10?) At least some of the Lincolnshire regiment was in South Africa 1899 -1902 if your man was there he would not have been enumerated, although its possible his family might be with him its unlikely as a private (not impossible though) There are various very good research guides on the National Archives (under British Army) http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/researchguidesindex.asp?WT.lp=gs-researchguides&j=1 Have you found them in 1911? Hi Reg I have found a Percy that fits in 1901 as an adopted son with the Wesson family. I can send image off list if required Regards Karen Hunt (Warwick UK) ----- Original Message ----- From: "Reg Wesson" <rwesson@cogeco.ca> To: <eng-warks-birmingham@rootsweb.com> Sent: Monday, June 15, 2009 9:09 PM Subject: [B'ham] Army Service >I have a birth certificate for a Percival Taylor covering his birth May 20, >1898.
