In Britain, women were not allowed to vote until 1918 - for women over 30 and not until 1928 for all women over 21. Voting has never been compulsory but most people eligible to vote are listed on the electoral rolls. Anthony Martin Devon England
just to illustrate the point my local library in Northfield was burnt down in 1914 by the suffragettes, fortunately rebuilt by the time I learned to read and spent many happy hours their in the 1950s.
