Hi Marlene I know exactly what you mean if only we could have the 1911 census. Its just certificates or electoral rolls. I live in the UK but still struggle to find people after 1901. Good morning, I wonder if you could have a look at the name Stephen BLOCKSIDGE in your fiche for St Mary's, Handsworth? The only information I have for him is that he was married at St. Martin's in 1793 to Nancy TRICKETT. Dear Listers, Thanks to Helen Taylor I have added a new twig to my Tree. I would like to turn it into a branch. So if anybody has a connection to a Joseph Middleton AUGUSTUS, born in Liverpool in about 1876, but lived in Birmingham from about 1891 on, I would love to compare notes. All the best, David (Beecham) PA-USA, where it is pouring with rain and some has got into the basement. Always something trying to deter me from Family History!
Hi Could sks please check the marriage of Sarah Scandrett and George Anderson - 20 APR 1835 at All Saints West Bromwich - for me?? As it's before 1837 I don't hold out much hope of fathers' names, but I would like to know names of witnesses and if the bride was a spinster or a widow etc (as I know from censuses she was about 35 at the time of the marriage). TIA Joss ______________________________________________________________________ This email has been scanned by the MessageLabs Email Security System. Hi Jocelyn Thank you for that. As I do not live in Birmingham it will be easier to get to the Central Library than to Stechford. Regards Hilary
Hi Linda Thank you for your help. I will try your suggestion. Regards Hilary
Hi Mike Thank you for your help and the news that the records are available from the Archives Department. Jackie has kindle sent me the address so I will now write to them. I did know that women had to leave on marriage. My aunt worked for Cadbury's until her marriage then she lived in a house belonging to the company. Regards Hilary
Hi Jackie Thank you for the information. It will be very useful. I will write to the address you gave me and hope for a good result. Regards Hilary
Hi Bob & Chris Thank you for the information. As I do not live in Birmingham it will be a little difficult to get to Stechford Library. Another lister tells me the magazines are also in Birmingham main library which might be easier for me. Thank you for your interest Regards Hilary
Hi List Just for information A Bostin Brummy Night Out is on at the Birmingham Alexander Theatre on Sunday at 7.30. Introduced by our Proff Carl Chinn. Regards Wendy Partridge

With the UK GRO you can look up indices on-line. Are there no Irish indices on-line? I read their web sites but it looks as though you need to know the district; this will be my stumbling block. If I could have just asked them to look for a death in 1861 that might have found something but since I do not know the county, I think I am snookered.
Karen All houses in Prospect Row long gone, I am afraid - it's part of a main road system. Factory units etc there now - it is near Aston University, almost city centre. Also, anyone going to the Library that can look-up Joseph DAY, he was a Merchant in the late 1700's in Birmingham, he lived at the above address with his wife Mary PARKER DAY, and their 5 children. If I could get a look-up to confirm their children It would be great, and what kind of Merchant Joseph DAY was. > > Thanks, > Karen > > >

Hi Ken , Glad you got there in the end, the Baker name was the right one then! As you say 'Baby Farming ' was a touch and go thing back then. However as I suggested, the old couple may have just done it to help them to survive themselves and had no sinister intent. Like today there were some genuine people around and Nelly was lucky to have been placed with them and no one else. Glad to have been of some help to you. Chris P. NZ :-)
