    1. [B'ham] Wharfingers
    2. kgjones
    3. My ancestor, Thomas Jackson, was a wharfinger living in Holt Street in 1818. He with a partner, John Howell, advertised in Wrightsons Trienniel Directory in 1928-29 offering 'Conveyance by Water' between Coventry and Birmingham and Derby and Newark. He was still living in Holt St in 1941 describing himself as a carrier. I understand a wharfinger was connected with canals but can anyone give me more information on his job and possible lifestyle. 3. On his marriage certificate (dated 1924), his father is listed as a William Henry BAILEY - occupation is that of Gas Fitter. According to his eldest daughter, William was in the military when Horace was born I've searched on 1901 census, and found 1 possibility. A six month old Horace S BAILEY. His father's name is William Henry BAILEY (source: Horace's marriage certificate) According to my great aunt, Horace had a brother, John, a sister, Winifred, and a half brother (younger) called Charles. 3. I am trying to trace any details of Thomas Skelding [Gunfinisher] & his family. Only data that I have is that he had a son Frederick [b.abt.1802 in Birmingham]. His son married Ann Sadler on 27-06-1819 @ the Parish Church, Harborne, Staffs. I should imagine that Thomas was b.abt.1770 to 1780 & I can only assume that it was in Birmingham where the Gunmakers trade was situated. Any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Graham.

    3. The Albert Journal, Albert County, New Brunswick, 6 May 1904 Waterside - A very serious accident happened to Percy Love the little ADOPTED BOY OF C.W. Anderson, TAKEN FROM THE MIDDLEMORE HOME IN BIRMINGHAM, ENGLAND. While playing in the barn on Friday evening he accidently pulled over a large team sled which was leaning against the wall. He was knocked down, the sled runners struck him violently on the head. George Anderson who was feeding the cattle close by heard the noise and rushed to his rescue. Blood flowing profusely from the mouth, nose and ears, he was carried to the house apparently dead, but when signs of life were seen, Dr. Murray was summoned and remained all night. He succeded in bring the little fellow to partial consciousness by morning. He is in critical condition and his many friends are very anxious for his recovery as he is an exceptionally bright boy. ***** The child did pull through as he appears in 1911 with George and Astina Anderson in Harvey, Kings & Albert, NB. He arrived in 1903 aged 5, with Middlemore Homes on SS Siberian. He enlisted in WW1 in 1916 under the name of Lionel Percy Love, birthplace Birminghan, address: 64 Harrison Street, St Johns, NB, occ-repairman, friend-Jennie Anderson. 3. Hi John Dodd and Wendy Partridge et al. John, Birth certs applied for from the GRO are always copies of the original, or I assume in place of KIA during the world wars, one filled out as best as they can with the information they have available to them. You will never get the original whatever or whoever you are except when you are registering a bmd for a person at that moment. You can also send off for records of servicemen through their relevant service record centres. After 1920 send to Glasgow, before send to Hayes. IF you would like the addresses, email off-list please. Wendy, have you checked out the 'Seaman's records' on the Archives site, they have just released those for viewing, if your person is there, it will come up with vague information relating to them, then you will be able to prchase that records by download, my last one cost me £3.50 for an A4 page, but it will depend on how much info is available, it could be many pages, all A4 size. Hope this has helped both. My uncle was in the Air Force and I cared for him for several years and his stories were quite harrowing especially as a lot lost there lives on land as well as Airborne.
