    3. Hi San That is certainly a complicated story. I wish you luck in obtaining the divorce information. In my case the decree nisi finalising the 1st marriage was issued in September and the 2nd marriage took place in November of the same year. I found them very helpful at the Principal Registry of the Family Division, and found out not only the date of the divorce but also the grounds for divorce, and also the date and place of the first marriage. The Decree Nisi Absolute cost about £20-25 (can't remember exactly). The telephone number I have for Decree Absolute searches was 020 7947 7016/7017 if this is of help. Let me know how you get on. 1. Re: [B'ham] BMD Question
    2. gary - my Grandmother was married twice and had children in both marriages - her maiden name was her original on both lots of children (from each marriage her name was Thomas) so I do imagine that it will ba the same as in her "original maiden name" also shown on the second marriage cert it has her first marriage name and written underneath "formerly known as" and shown the maiden name - so it showed the name changes etc.. on second marriage cert.

    3. Hi List I posted this about a week ago on the 11th dec, So Trying again, What I have got is some old notes taken from The St Cyprian registers (hay mills) on the 7th floor of the archives, the entry is for a baptism of a william CARTER on the 18th febuary 1890, it is located between page 21(june 1889) and page 27 (june 1891), I did not record a page number for william or his parents for some unknown reason at the time several years ago.but I reckon its roundabout 24,25,26 pages. The reason for the request is that I have the birth certificate of william above , the when/where born shows 18th febuary 1890 wribbenhall worcestershire, and show a mother "ellen" but no father, the certificate was registerd on the 31st march 1890. So I think Ellen went to hay mills for the birth ( some of her siblings were already here), then returned to wribbenhall afterwards as she shows up on the 1891 census there, with william listed with her father/mother next door as their grandson ,aged 1. Ellen later married in 1898. I cannot go to the archives just yet as I have a bad leg, otherwise I,d go there myself. gary hodge

Hello San They should be able to help with any divorce that occurred in England (I'm not sure about Wales, Scotland etc). 'Our' divorce took place in either Rugby or Leicester; I tend to think the latter. The only thing is I am not sure how old the decree and absolute have to be before you can get the copies. The department is VERY busy though as they deal with present day divorce too so you can imagine they are kept hard at work. If you drop them a line now you may just get a reply before Christmas and this should set the wheels in motion towards getting at the records. Hello San I was also looking for divorce records earlier this year. If you look at the two messages that I have copied below you will see the address to which you can apply for divorce records. There is a website (don't have address but google will find it) where you can download a form. The cost has risen to £25 now but they will advise. Unfortunately in my case the actual papers have been lost and all that they could tell me was that the divorce took place in 1907 (and no refund!). The lady who wrote the message with the information is Judy and she may write to you if she reads your request. Good luck Janet Last year I was trying to find out about a divorce in my family which took place between 1930 and 1937. I wrote t the Principal Registry of The Family Division, Decree Absolute Searches, Family Proceedings Dept., Room 2.03, First Avenue House, 42-49 High Holborn, London WC1V 6NP. They were very helpful and found the divorce for me. I then sent for a copy of the proceedings which cost me £20. It told me the grounds for divorce, also told me where the couple had been married and the date. >I know now that my great grandparents divorced between 1901-1908 as in >1908 my great grandfather, then aged 51, married a new wife who was >only 25 years old. Can anyone point me in the right direction to >finding divorce records? >

Parents and siblings not known however it is known that George Weake was a Plasterer, married Maggie Hamilton Shannon and lived in Springfield, Masschusetts. 3. Hi Sandra What time frame are you researching? It can make all the difference as to the possibility of them actually divorcing or just going their separate ways These research guides may help Pre 1858 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=260 Post 1858 http://www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/catalogue/RdLeaflet.asp?sLeafletID=53 It will also help if the couple you are researching were well off, as theres every chance if they were that it would be in a local or even National paper of the time Best wishes Nivard Ovington, in Cornwall (UK) Admin for OVINGTON - HAYLOCK - SEYMOUR Lists > Dear Listers, > I am hoping that SKS may be able to help me please?.. > I am trying to find out which year someone divorced!!...Is it possible do > you know, to be able to look up a Divorce for a couple?... > i know when the couple married and also when the WIFE married her 2nd > husband but, need to know when she was divorced from her 1st hubby?.. > There is always one awkward person on the list!!..Yes, me of course..Sorry > listers but if anyone can point me in the right direction that would be > just great!!.. > look forward to hearing from you. > thanks, > san.

    3. Can anyone please help with this missing branch of my Bladon family? Amelia Hannah Bladon married Harry Stokes in 1885 at Walsall. They had Alice Mary in 1888 at Walsall after Harry died. In 1891 Amelia and Alice are at Potters Hill in Aston with Joseph Stokes brother in law (twice as he is the widower of her sister Elizabeth and Harry's brother!) after that no trace of Amelia or Alice. I have searched the deaths to 1952 100 years after Amelia was born. There is a marriage in 1899 but that has no been ruled out. As Amelia's brother settled in Australia and Joseph and Elizabeth lived there (he come back after she died) I wondered if Amelia went back to Australia? Can anyone help at all?
