    3. Thanks James, My Brookes interest lies with George Brook(e)s who married Ann Millward Hawkes in 1821. I believe his parents may have been Seth Brooks and Maria. Ann was widowed in 1840 and always spelled her name as Brookes. Cheers, Doug. -- Doug Hawkes e-mail: dhawkes@ee.ryerson.ca > Hi Douglas, > I have always assumed that Mary died before 1861 as James is listed as a > widower in the Census. > Whilst checking through my research I found the search I did at St > Philip's for my James and found this which was of no use to me at the > time, baptism 11 FEb 1777 Ann daughter of Charles and Sarah BROOKES. > Hope this helps. > James > > Douglas Hawkes <dhawkes@ee.ryerson.ca> wrote: > Hi James, > > Was Mary alive when James died? 2. Wendy Partridge
    3. Hello List I wonder if anyone can help me with information from a trade directory around 1920. I am looking for information on where the DAVIES coal business was. I know the family lived at Aragon House, Tudor Hill in Sutton Coldfield. The house has long gone but there is a road called Aragon Drive where it was. I don't think the business would have been there, although I am not sure. I know the family and the business moved in 1926 to Llandudno in North Wales. I think the business started about 1908. I would be grateful for any help. Regards Wendy Partridge

This was Charles J Naylor- b Coventry 1866 initialy involved in the watch trade -and his family. His wife Susan -b 1864 in Coventry- and 4 children. These were... Ethel 1893 Coventry, Grace 1895 Coventry, Winifred 1897 Birmingham and Charles J (jnr) 1900 Birmingham. Does anybody have these in their family or have any connections to them and theirs. Maria's christening was 15/03/1828 at Bordesley according to the IGI. The other children came up in the 1841 census but their father was not present at that time.I've been told that they rounded the ages down to the nearest five years in 1841. I was not aware I could obtain a birth certificate for someone born in 1800. How can I find reference numbers for that period, please? What I have (from IGI) is Joseph b 31 Jan 1822 St Martins, Birmingham MaryAnn b. 25 November, 1825 St Martins Maria ch. 15 March 1828. Hope this may help and thanks again. Jan

    3. Hi Jan As Jean has already said, civil registration started in mid 1837 so no civil registration certificates before then. (There were a few certificates made out earlier from odd Parishes but they are very few and far between and only contain the details found in the PR anyway as a rule) The entry for Joseph Onions SPENCER is from an extraction program and as such you can order a copy of the Parish Register page from the LDS for not a lot, that is if you cannot visit an LDS FHS to order in the film, then view and print them off. It will not contain the detail found on the later certificates though.
