All I know is that he served in WWI and during the 20's worked at Gabriels in Birmingham. During WWII whilst still working at Gabriels he was killed in a bombing raid when entering the building, I am led to believe he was also an air raid warden. I think his wife may have been called Emily?, he definatly had a son called Frederick, my grandfather and a daughter called Lilly, he had a grandaughter named Jean Simmonds. Hi there Brian and Janet , my daughter lives in Austalia and she has started tracing back again my dads side and she has just found out that my gggrandmother was called EMILY BARNETT born 1858 and she married my gggrandad ALFRED EDDINGTON and he was born 1859 .we always thought my gggrandmothers name was EMILY MOTT but have just found recently this not to be so. The name EDDINGTON has changed several times so could be spelt differently elsewhere. Dont know if there are any links there ,but we are still looking , you never know, so if there is anything else i will get in touch , best wishes, christine ----- Original Message ----- From: "Brian & Janet" <bri.jan@tiscali.co.uk> To: <ENG-WARKS-BIRMINGHAM@rootsweb.com>; <ENG-STS-WALSALL@rootsweb.com>; <BARNETT-L@rootsweb.com>; <STAFFORDSHIRE@rootsweb.com> Sent: Wednesday, January 24, 2007 11:13 PM Subject: [B'ham] Barnett (Walsall) Roll Call > > Please excuse my previous e-mail - I sent it by mistake while collating > this > info. - Apologies > > > Hi All, > > I just thought I'd put by branch of the Barnett's out to see if anyone has > any connections? > I have put an * next to my direct line. > > * GEORGE BARNETT b. abt 1793 - Bewdley, Worcester > m. Hello Doug, I came across this document in my file which may be of interest. Death occurred in Edgbaston (Reg Dist Kings Norton) in the Counties of Birmingham and Worcester on 18th January 1893 at 7 Highfield Road, Edgbaston of Charlotte Elizabeth Spencer, aged 76 years. She was the widow of Joseph Spencer, a Machinist, Engineer and Iron Thounder (?) In attendance at her death was her niece, Harriet MILWARD, of The Linthurst, Bromsgrove. Can send scanned copy if you wish. Jan in sultry Qld
Many thanks for the great response I got on my query. Thanks go to Barb Stacey, Helen Rolph and Anne Peat. I guess my next step is to see if I can find any military records for the Regiment 2/8 foot. Thomas was married but I'm not sure to whom - possibly Emma Troman in the Sept. 1858 quarter in Birmingham.. Hi Gerry and Helen, I think the institution in which Thomas is an inmate is Military Invaliding Depot. There are two enumeration books for this as well as two for the Military Hospital at Gillingham. So this might be a sort of convalescent home? Gerry, hello On Ancestry.com there is a Thomas MESSINGER, aged 22, married, born Birmingham and in Gillingham, Kent; the page looks like it has names etc. to do with the Army. Thomas is on page 9 of 12; RG 9 480. Writing is difficult to read, I wouldn't like to hazard a guess as to the 'correct' details. I am not completely computer literate but if you don't have access to Ancestry.com I could try sending off-list. Hello, can anyone help me find the birth records and hopefully parents of my GG Grandfather Robert BASTOCK who was born in the Parish of St Nicholas according to various census records. His date of birth is around 1808-1811. He married Susannah CHURN on 7th Dec 1830 in the Parish of St Mary Warwick. Their is another Robert b 1802, son of George Bastock and Elizabeth ? in the Parish of St Mary, Warwick and married to Anne. This one is not the correct one. Thanks for any assistance Chris in sunny Oz
Hi Jane, No we haven't been able to find her on the census and I thought if I could find the convent in the census I can then go through each person until I find her in case the name was incorrectly transcribed as happenned with my G Grandfather in the 1901 census. Took a year or two to find him in 1901. Chris
Hello Listers: I am trying to locate Thomas Messenger and his brother James. In the 1841 census they were in Birmingham along with their parents (Thomas and Ann). James was 3 and Thomas was 2. In the 1851 census they were at Derby End, Dudley which I believe is in Worcestershire. James was 13 and Thomas 11. Both were Carters Boys. Both James and Thomas were born in Birmingham. The family moved back to Birmingham in the Aston area for the 1861 census, but both boys were now missing. I haven't been able to locate any deaths on the BDM site. Can anyone locate them in 1861? Thank you for any help you can provide. Gerry Edwards Canada

Hi Chris Not knowing the area well, I may well be wrong but could the Convent you seek be Maryvale? If so its found at RG10 2973 59 17 Alice J MEYNELL will find the location on Ancestry At that time it was in Handsworth Staffs No obvious sign of the names you seek but there is a possible misspelling If not that location, where and when was your Elizabeth born? You can try putting the address ( or part of it) into the keywords box. I did try it with 'convent' and Birmingham for this query but it didn't bring up anything useful. I am trying to track down my G Grandmother Elizabeth O'Brien or Wallace who was an orphan and raised by the nuns in this Convent at this time. Thank you Chris
