    3. Hi Hilton. Noticed your very unusual surname and thought I should let you know that I have an aquaintance of the same surname, living in Lichfield , Staffordshire. John is researching his FH but I am not sure how far he has got. Perhaps you would have a connection as you are contacting the Birmingham Warks list? If you want to contact him you are welcome to send me your e-mail address and I will pass it on. regards Barbara [email protected] ----- Original Message ----- From: "Hilton Doidge" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]>; <[email protected]> Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008 4:43 AM Subject: [B'ham] Warwickshire surname interest list page > Hi Wendy...Can I post my interests on the Warwickshire surname interest > list without subscribing???... > Either of these don't appear to be Rootsweb sites as the name Rootsweb > doesn't occur in the address or the word "request" to subscribe???...Is > this > a new format??? > > http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/hughw/warwick.html > > http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/%7Ehughw/warwick.html > > Hilton > > ----- Original Message ----- > From: "Wendy Archer" <[email protected]> > To: <[email protected]> > Sent: Monday, May 19, 2008 3:17 AM > Subject: Re: [B'ham] DEVEY Ann > > >> Hilton - >> >> You could also post your interests on the Warwickshire surname interest >> list - http://homepages.ihug.co.nz/hughw/warwick.html >> >> Wendy >> B'ham List Admin > > > -- > I am using the free version of SPAMfighter for private users. > It has removed 386 spam emails to date. > Paying users do not have this message in their emails. > Get the free SPAMfighter here: http://www.spamfighter.com/len > > > _____________________________________________ > _____________________________________________ > > Have you considered adding "postems" to "your" events on > www.freebmd.org.uk , giving your contact details? Is it just Births or can you get marriages? ( I prefer the Parish entries!) Thanks for sharing! 3. I've just checked with the library and while this is possible, it's £3 and you must know all of the information such as the exact date and place, they won't search within a quarter for example. You can of course go into the library and search yourself with a photocopy costing 40p. Dave Carr On 19 May 2008, at 08:37, Graham Cole wrote: No! Wow, thanks for that information. It may be that they're old addresses - which is why postal addresses are useful - in fact, it may also be that by bringing the site to listers' attention some folk may go in & update their details. If you want to let me know off list the addresses that are bouncing - it just may be that I know of newer addresses, and can forward a message from you. But enter your own interests anyway ! Wendy

Could you elaborate or refer the list to a correct > posting. > TIA Let's have a look at an example - Go to http://www.freebmd.org.uk/cgi/search.pl and put in the marriage of James ADAMS in Dec 1849. There are 7 entries, and the Birmingham one has a post-em - an envelope icon - against it. It says: "CERTIFICATE NOT MINE - FREE TO GOOD HOME James Adams m. Mary Ann WHITWORTH 24 Nov 1849, St. Martin Birmingham, Fathers are William Adams, Shoe Maker and Thomas Whitworth, Pearl Button Maker" and gives contact details. Or try a Thomas LEE, birth Mar 1884. Lots - the last, Thomas William S LEE, born in Birmingham. It says: "This entry is for Thomas William Samuel Lee who emigrated to Canada with his wife Elsie Eliza (nee Hadley also of Birmingham)Thomas (known as Bill) lived for many years in Richmond BC and died in Prince George BC April 5, 1967. "and gives contact details. So - that's how they can appear. To add one, you go to any event which is relevant to you, click the info button, and add a post-em. It won't appear immediately - only when the next update is done. Wendy

    2. Graham Cole
    3. Yes a 16 year old could and still can witness a marriage. It was checked out for us when our younger daughter witnessed her elder sister's wedding. The only requirement of a witness to a marriage is that they are present throughout the marriage ceremony, understand what has happened and what they are signing / making their mark for. Hope this help, Chris -----Original Message----- Hi Listers, Would someone please tell me if a 16 year-old brother could be a witness to the marriage of his sister in 1899. I have what I believe is the death of an Edward FLOWER in 1898, whereas his daughter Ada married a year after this. There was a son, also Edward, who was born in early 1882. I realise that to be 100% sure I would probably need to get the marriage cert. Would the certificate show that the father was deceased at the time of the wedding? It's a bit confusing because the two Edwards were both plasterers. Diane (Melbourne).

    3. Hi Graham Many thanks for your information . re your query about Willans/William - I have not really noticed any Willans - but I have not been able to find William Dixon either but I will keep a look out for both now. Re Ireland - we feel that he could be Irish for the reasons listed in my earlier email. Problem is as you identify no census records for Ireland. and to keep paying for "possible" birth records (not that I have found many) can be pretty expensive. I am hoping as more counties in Ireland come on line re BMD we may be able to identify. Do you have any special links to search Ireland online? I dont know if he was hiding in Ireland - dont think so as he was pretty easy to track in UK from 1871. Mind you if he was hiding = he did a pretty good job of it! Re Wards - my current connection is that I married a Ward. However I do have Ward's on my fathers side = Caroline Ward, born 1839 married James Turner. They both came from Birmingham but lived in Middlesex for a few years. Her father was Thomas Ward. Sorry I cannot help with the NZ Ward - some of my family did emigrate there but not Ward. I know my Abraham Dixon had a son Frederick - is this any relation to you? Jan
